Ways to Volunteer at Hope Villages of America

At Hope Villages of America, we welcome individuals, students, families, and groups who are passionate about making a difference. Whether you’re looking to give back for just a few hours or dive into a long-term commitment, there’s a place for you here.

To get started, you can:

Food Distribution Services

Join us in packing hope – every box you fill helps feed a neighbor in need. Our Food Bank is one of the most hands-on ways to serve and is perfect for students, families, and groups. Before food can reach families, it must be sorted, packed, and labeled – and that’s where our volunteers make all the difference. They help transform every donation into a lifeline for someone facing hunger.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Helping with client check-ins and interviews
  • Assisting in the warehouse
  • Supporting food distribution efforts
  • Picking up light food donations (like bread)
  • Helping with cleaning and organization

Organize a Food or Fund Drive—an ideal service activity for youth groups, clubs, or businesses. Contact us for support materials and tips!

Abuse Services (The Haven)

Make a meaningful impact by supporting survivors through our Abuse Services Division. We welcome volunteers with a wide range of talents and time availability.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Administrative and office assistance
  • Victim Advocates
  • Light cleaning and organization
  • Assisting with children’s activities during support programs

Interested in long-term roles? Opportunities at the Outreach Office, Shelter, Courthouse, or as a Volunteer Victim Advocate require CORE Training, as mandated by Florida law.

Housing Stability Services

Help create safe, welcoming environments for families in transition. Volunteers in this division contribute directly to the upkeep and beautification of our affordable housing properties.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Gardening and landscaping
  • Painting or minor repairs
  • General maintenance and beautification projects

VOLUNTEER FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Volunteering at Hope Villages of America

1. What happens during the volunteer interview?

The volunteer interview is a chance for you to get to know us—and for us to get to know you. During your visit, our staff will give you a brief tour of the facility, explain the volunteer roles available, and learn more about your interests, skills, and goals. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions about Hope Villages of America, our mission, and our policies. Together, we’ll determine the best volunteer role for you.

2. What is volunteer orientation?

Volunteer orientation provides a brief introduction to Hope Villages of America, including an overview of our programs and the various ways you can support them. In most cases, orientation takes place about 15 minutes before your volunteer shift begins.

3. If I’m part of a one-time group project, do we all need to attend orientation?

No. For one-time group projects, our team will provide a short agency overview before you begin volunteering.

4. What’s included in the background check?

We ask volunteers to provide their full name, Florida driver’s license number, and date of birth to complete a local background check. Additional information may be required depending on the role. A background check result does not automatically disqualify you from volunteering with us.

5. What is CORE Training?

CORE Training is required by Florida law for volunteers who wish to work long-term with our Abuse Services Division (The Haven). It includes 24 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of on-site shadowing. This training ensures that certified volunteers are eligible for victim/advocate privileged communication. CORE Training is provided free of charge.
